9/24/09 town of the day, Blytheville, Arkansas.

How about a local tip on lingo here... if you don't want to sound like a Yankee Carpetbagger, you pronounce it Bl-eye-vull. Reportedly home to one of Writer John Grisham's favorite bookstores, NUCOR steel and sitting just 60 miles north of Memphis on Interstate 55, it's Mississippi Delta living encarnate.
Though he reportedly was born there, not many folks mention George Hamilton, since he is a Californian now. But, regardless, Blytheville is a great little town to visit when you take that pilgrimage to Graceland.

9/17/09 town of the day Minneapolis, Minnesota.

With a Population of 372,833 in the city proper, Minneapolis is a major town. You have to go see the cool state fair they have every fall specializing in 'everything on a stick!'... sweet. Now for the boring history part....Ice blocks deposited in valleys by retreating glaciers created the lakes of Minneapolis. Dakota Sioux were the region's sole residents until French explorers arrived around 1680. Nearby Fort Snelling, built in 1819 by the United States Army, spurred growth in the area. The United States Government pressed the Mdewakanton band of the Dakota to sell their land, allowing people arriving from the east to settle there. The Minnesota Territorial Legislature authorized present day Minneapolis as a town on the Mississippi's west bank in 1856. Minneapolis incorporated as a city in 1867, the year rail service began between Minneapolis and Chicago. It later joined with the east bank city of St. Anthony in 1872.

9/14/09 town of the day nacogdoches, texas!

Nacogdoches flies NINE FLAGS: Spanish, French, Mexican, The Magee-Gutierrez Republic, The Long Republic, The Fredonia Republic, The Lone Star, The Confederate, and The United States. Known as the oldest city in Texas, this location was first populated by the Caddo when a Caddo chief on the Sabine River sent one of his twin sons three days to the west and the other three days to the east. The settlements they established were Nacogdoches and Natchitoches, Spanish and French spellings of the same Indian tribe.
In 1832, the citizens of Nacogdoches fired one of the opening guns of the Texas Revolution. The citizens, both Mexican and Anglos, attacked the Mexican garrison under the command of Col. Jose Piedras. Now with a population of roughly 48,000 people in the entire community, it is a place worth mention and well worth a visit!
