In 1847 Fort Mann was started. After an Indian attack, the fort was rebuilt by it's founders and named after Richard Irving Dodge around 1853. Home to nearly 27,000 staunch Western Kansas folks, Dodge City is a good place to stop in and eat, see the sites and really get a feel for the old days of the Chisholm trail and the cattle drives of the late 1800's.
